WKNO, now more than 65 years old, is owned and operated by the Mid-South Public Communications Foundation, licensed to the community of Memphis, Tennessee, and governed by an all-volunteer, self-perpetuating Board of Trustees.
WKNO is the Mid-South’s premier public media organization committed to creating and presenting both unique local and national content for television, radio and digital media.

WKNO was a pioneer station for Ready to Learn establishing an early childhood outreach project in 1993. Along with Tennessee's other public television stations, WKNO-TV is pleased to partner with the Tennessee Department of Education to provide instructional programming and educational outreach for the families of Tennessee.

Charles McLarty, President & CEO
Charles McLarty was named President & CEO of WKNO Public Media in January 2020. McLarty has over four decades of experience in public broadcasting development, communications, and senior management.
A native Tennesseean, McLarty holds a B.A. degree in Journalism from the University of Memphis. McLarty has served on the University of Memphis Journalism Alumni Board and is a longtime member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and in the past was named Fundraising Executive of the Year for the Memphis Chapter.
McLarty was the Campaign Director for the $17 million fund-raising project that resulted in the construction of the WKNO Digital Media Center. The station moved into the new state-of-the-art building debt-free in 2009.
McLarty believes in working with local, regional and national independent producers. Recent projects include national distribution to public television stations of Gaither Music's Classic Gospel series and the special He Touched Me: The Gospel Music of Elvis Presley.
